Stop Chasing People. Be A Lighthouse.

Matthew 5:16  - “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Evangelism has a branding problem.

Say the word and people imagine scripts, pressure, awkward conversations at the worst possible moment. It feels like chasing people who aren’t interested.

But the original idea wasn’t like that at all.

Evangelism simply means announcing good news.

Somewhere along the way we turned it into chasing ships.

But lighthouses don’t chase ships.

They don’t get in boats.
They don’t argue with captains.
They don’t shout into the wind.

They stand where they are and shine.

And when the storm comes, ships look for the light.

That’s closer to what sharing your faith actually is.

Most people aren’t resisting God.

Most people are navigating fog.

They’re tired. Confused. Carrying shame they don’t know how to name. Fighting battles they don’t have language for. They know something is wrong, but they can’t see the rocks yet.

So they keep sailing.

And sometimes they keep crashing.

Christians often think their job is to rescue the ship.

It isn’t.

You’re not the Coast Guard.

You’re the lighthouse keeper.

Your job is simpler than you think.

Keep the light on.

That might look like kindness when someone expects indifference.
It might look like courage in a conversation that suddenly matters more than you expected.
It might look like asking a question that opens a door.

It might even look like praying for someone when you feel slightly ridiculous doing it.

The light doesn’t have to be complicated.

It just has to be visible.

Jesus understood this.

He rarely chased crowds. Instead, he stepped into moments that were already unfolding.

A well in the middle of the day.
A tree along a road.
A fishing boat.
A dinner table.

People thought they were running errands.

But heaven had scheduled an interruption.

The woman at the well came for water.

Jesus showed her thirst.

And suddenly the story changed.

That’s the quiet secret about sharing your faith.

You’re not starting the story.

You’re entering one.

God is already at work in the lives of the people around you. Long before you arrive. Long before you say a word.

They’re asking questions.
Feeling restless.
Running into walls they don’t understand.

Your role isn’t to start the story.

Your role is to help them read the chapter they’re already in.

Christians worry about being awkward.

But people in storms don’t complain about lighthouses.

When the waves are high and the fog is thick, obvious light is welcome.

You can explain the lighthouse.

Or you can turn it on.

Jesus almost always chose the second option.

He healed people.
He forgave people.
He delivered people.
He saw people.

And suddenly the explanation made sense.

Because the gospel isn’t just information.

It’s illumination.

Isaiah had a moment like this.

He encountered God. Saw holiness. Felt his own brokenness. And then he heard a question.

Whom shall I send?

Not who is qualified.
Not who has perfect theology.

Just who will go.

Isaiah answered the way lighthouse keepers always do.

Here I am.

Send me.

You don’t need to save the ocean.

Just keep the light on.

One conversation.
One prayer.
One interruption you stop resisting.

Because somewhere nearby someone is sailing through fog.

And they don’t need a speech.

They need light.

MAKE GOD KNOWN

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. - Ephesians 3:20-21

Ephesians 3:20–21 isn’t subtle.

It doesn’t describe a helpful God.
Or an encouraging God.
Or a symbolic God.

It describes a God who does immeasurably more than we ask or imagine — and then says the point of that is His glory showing up in the Church.

Not in theory.
Not in heaven someday.
Here. Where people can actually notice.

Which raises the uncomfortable question:

If the promise is visibility… why is He so often invisible?

False Humility

False humility sounds wise.

“We don’t want to overstate.”
“Let’s be balanced.”
“I don’t want to assume.”

But false humility isn’t making God big and us small.
It’s making expectations small so we stay safe.

We soften prayers.
We hedge stories.
We avoid clear credit.

Because clarity costs reputation.

If we say God did something and we’re wrong, we lose status.
So we choose language that can’t be tested.

Now no one argues with us —
and no one encounters God either.

You can respect a distant God forever.
You only glorify a God you can’t ignore.

Why We Do It

People protect belonging.

A bold claim rearranges the room.
It demands a response.
So we lower the volume until no response is needed.

Humility becomes performance.
Faith becomes philosophy.

We still believe in God —
just not in a way that interrupts anything.

So life stays explainable.
And God stays abstract.

What’s at Stake

When expectations shrink, God looks inactive.
When language blurs, God feels far away.
When everything stays cautious, God becomes an idea.

This isn’t about enthusiasm.

It’s about whether anyone can tell He’s actually here.

A hidden God gets polite agreement.
A visible God gets glory.

The Life That Reveals Him

Jesus didn’t manage perception.
He revealed the Father.

Not optimized for comfort.
Optimized for clarity.

And the same pattern holds:

God becomes noticeable when people expect Him, name Him, and make room for Him.

Stop Editing

Try honesty.

Pray like intervention is possible.
Say His name when something happens.
Act like He might interrupt your plans.

Not louder. Clearer.

Because the issue isn’t whether we sound impressive.

It’s whether God remains theoretical.

God is glorified when He’s unmistakable.
And what keeps Him hidden most effectively isn’t rebellion.

It’s careful language.

The Kingdom of Heaven Is Like Leaven?

“Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened.” - Matthew 13:33

“The Kingdom of Heaven Is Like Leaven.” - Jesus
Wait!! Isn’t Leaven Evil?

That’s the flinch.
That moment your brain hits the brakes.

Because leaven has a reputation.

It sneaks in.
It spreads.
It changes things quietly.
And most of the time in Scripture, it’s a warning label.

So why would Jesus reach for that metaphor?

Because leaven isn’t evil.
It’s effective.

Leaven doesn’t announce itself.
It doesn’t ask permission.
It doesn’t build a platform or start a movement.

It just works.

A little disappears into the dough,
and then—inevitably—
the whole loaf is different.

That’s why leaven is dangerous when sin is involved.
Not because it’s loud,
but because it’s subtle.

And that’s exactly why Jesus uses it for the Kingdom.

The Kingdom of Heaven doesn’t crash the gates.
It doesn’t dominate the skyline.
It doesn’t shout for attention.

It infiltrates.
It embeds.
It changes the system from the inside.

Leaven doesn’t replace the dough.
It transforms it.

Same mechanism.
Different master.

Which raises an uncomfortable question for the Church:

If the Kingdom really works like leaven,
why are we so obsessed with being seen instead of being felt?

Why do we keep building mountains
when Jesus described yeast?

The Kingdom doesn’t win by isolation.
It wins by influence.

Quietly.
Relentlessly.
Until everything rises.

Sometimes the Kingdom of God is big, bold, and unmistakably visible—
Jesus shows us this.

But other times, the Kingdom is nearly invisible.
Subtle.
Hidden.

And just as powerful.
Just as effective.

Most people think prayer...

Most people think prayer is about volume.

Louder words.
Longer nights.
More intensity.

Or effort.
Or desperation.
Or trying to get God to finally do something He wasn’t planning to do.

That assumption sneaks in quietly.

And once it’s there, it shapes everything.

How we ask.
What we expect.
What we tolerate.
What we settle for.

It doesn’t just influence our prayers.

It limits them.

The box we pray from

Every prayer starts somewhere.

Not in heaven.
In us.

We carry unspoken beliefs into prayer.
Assumptions we didn’t choose.
Frameworks we inherited.

They sit there.
Unchallenged.
Untested.

Until pressure exposes them.

And then, without realizing it, we start asking the wrong questions.

Like these:

Does prayer bring God closer to us—or us closer to God?

Does prayer pull heaven down to earth?

Does prayer persuade God to act?

Does power arrive after we pray hard enough?

Is authority something we wait to receive?

Does persistence eventually wear God down?

Is desperation the posture that moves heaven?

These questions sound spiritual.

They feel familiar.
Even responsible.

But they reveal something else.

They reveal distance.
Delay.
Reluctance.

1. A God who is far away.

2. A Kingdom that hasn’t arrived yet.

3. A heaven that needs convincing.

And God doesn’t live in any of those places.

If our questions are shaped by distance,
our prayers will be shaped by striving.

If our assumptions are small,
our asking will be too.

Before we learn how to pray better,
we have to notice the box we’re praying from.

Because how you ask
always reveals what you believe.

And belief is the real beginning of prayer.

I Think I May Have Saved a Man’s Life at 35,000 Feet

Crazy moment on the airplane to Istanbul.

I was asleep when someone started frantically hitting my shoulder.

I pulled off my eye mask and saw the woman in the window seat holding her sleeping baby.

She looked panicked and said, “My husband isn’t breathing.”

I shook him. He was stiff. No response.

I asked if she had notified the flight attendants. She pointed at the call light and said yes—but no one was coming.

I put my hand behind his head and said, “Come back, Chris. Hey—come back.”

Nothing.

Still stiff.

Not responding.

I pulled his head forward a bit more and grabbed his wrist with my other hand.

“Chris, come on. Come back. Come back now.”

I just kept calling him back.

It felt like a few minutes.

Then it happened.

Then he started coughing.

His eyes flew open wide.

Then he jolted back with a harsh ‘AHHH!’—eyes flying open, like he’d been yanked out of a nightmare.

He was back.

“What’s going on?”

His wife began explaining in their language. She looked at me and said thank you.

Then he looked at me—still confused—and started thanking me too.

When the flight attendant finally came, I let his wife explain everything. I just put my eye mask back on. I honestly had no idea what had just happened or what to do next.

I asked if his heart felt okay, how he felt. He said he felt fine. I watched him for a bit, but I was exhausted, so I went back to sleep.

We just landed. He and his wife were incredibly kind and grateful.

I still have no idea what happened. But I think I may have saved the guy’s life.

How a Frozen Tree Stand, a Grizzly, and a God Idea Turned Into a TV Show

Some shows are birthed in sleek studios and marketing meetings.
The Counter was birthed in a freezing Canadian tree stand that smelled like death, with a grizzly bear circling below and no cell service in sight.

I was there.

How It Started: Manitoba, Bears, and a Download From Heaven

Understanding Soul Spirit Hurts & Demonic Oppression

We are the most trauma-aware generation in history — and somehow the most spiritually tormented.

Isn’t that strange?

We have language for everything now. Trauma, triggers, attachment wounds, emotional dysregulation, nervous system dysrhythmia, trauma-bonding, shadow work. We’ve created an emotional dictionary that would impress Freud and bewilder Moses.

And yet — anxiety is up. Depression is rising. Trust is collapsing. Loneliness is epidemic. Self-harm among teens is skyrocketing. Marriages are dissolving. Friendships are thinning. Faith is fading behind a fog of exhaustion.

We are not well.

And the Christians aren’t doing much better. In fact, many believers feel like they’re drowning silently.

They love God.
They worship sincerely.
They pray earnestly.

But spiritually?
Emotionally?

They’re numb.
They’re tired.
They’re stuck in cycles they can’t explain or escape.

If emotional vocabulary could save the soul, we’d be the healthiest saints who ever lived. Instead, we are medicated, exhausted, overwhelmed, and spiritually compromised.

But look beneath that surface and you find:

• A constant sense of threat or abandonment

This isn’t just psychology.

Yes, humans have emotions — but the Bible says we also have souls.
And the soul can be:

• Broken (Psalm 34:18)

“The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Crushed (Psalm 51:17)

“A broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.”

Wounded (Psalm 147:3)

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Cast down (Psalm 42:5)

“Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?”

Fragmented (Ezekiel 34:16)

“I will seek the lost, bring back the strayed, bind up the injured, and strengthen the weak…”
(speaks of God restoring the scattered, shattered, and broken parts of His people)

Tormented (Lamentations 3:17–19)

“My soul is bereft of peace… my soul continually remembers it and is bowed down within me.”

Scripture isn’t polite about this. It stares trauma in the face and names it.

Meanwhile, culture glamorizes trauma as identity, and the church often treats trauma like a bad mood.

So believers limp along, inwardly bleeding, outwardly smiling, doing their best to worship through internal shrapnel.

But here’s the truth most people never hear:

You can't worship your way out of a lie that lives in your soul.

You can be saved and still be stuck.
Not because you don't love God — but because you're injured.

How Trauma Becomes a Door

Trauma happens.
And for a moment, everything freezes.

But here’s the part no one talks about:

The doorway isn't built during the trauma.
It's built afterward. Quietly. Piece by piece.

Like a spiritual IKEA project, assembled without instructions but with devastating precision.

It starts with the trauma — the moment something broke. That becomes the top beam of the frame. Then comes the unhealed wound — the lingering ache we never really processed or resolved. That takes its place as the left post, holding the structure steady. Now comes the crucial moment: a lie enters — whispered at the point of maximum vulnerability…

“You’re alone.”
“You’re not safe.”
“You don’t matter.”
“God didn’t show up for you.”
“You’re unlovable.”

That lie becomes the right post — the supporting beam. And once you believe it, agreement forms — like a hinge. That hinge swings open the moment you emotionally nod along. Then coping mechanisms arrive — the doorknob — the habits we think are protecting us but that actually become re-entry points for bondage. And then, quietly, like a thief slipping through the night, the intruder steps in: fear, shame, despair, rejection, torment, heaviness — not invited, but legally permitted.

No one intends to build a spiritual doorway.
But unresolved pain, embraced lies, and survival habits become the raw materials.

“Just pray about it.”

“Trust God.”

You can’t cast out what has legal right,

How The Devil Uses Pain To Train

Satan doesn’t simply wound you.
He teaches you through the wound.

Trauma becomes his classroom.
And pain becomes a megaphone.

Right after the impact, while your soul is raw, he feeds you doctrine:

• “You’re abandoned.”

• “You’re unsafe.”

• “You’re unseen.”

• “You’re worthless.”

• “Love hurts.”

• “God protects everyone else.”

• “You’re damaged.”

And you don’t say it out loud, but a part of your soul whispers,

“…maybe that’s true.”

That is the agreement.
That is the hinge.
That is the moment the door creaks open.

The enemy does not need rebellion —
just cooperation with a lie.

Five Real Doorway Blueprints

1. Abandonment

Trauma: A parent leaves, emotionally or physically.
Wound: Rejection.
Lie: “No one will ever stay.”
Agreement: “I must protect myself.”
Doorway: Self-isolation, mistrust.
Spirit: Rejection, fear, loneliness.

They don’t fear commitment —
they fear devastation.

2. Betrayal

Trauma: Someone you trusted violated you.
Wound: Shattered trust.
Lie: “I can only rely on myself.”
Agreement: “Never trust fully again.”
Doorway: Control, emotional shutdown.
Spirit: Suspicion, fear, jealousy.

They call it discernment —
but it’s actually fear with Bible verses.

3. Humiliation / Shame

Trauma: Mocked, belittled, bullied.
Wound: Identity rupture.
Lie: “I’m not enough.”
Agreement: “I must hide my real self.”
Doorway: People-pleasing, self-rejection.
Spirit: Shame, insecurity, self-loathing.

They don’t lack confidence —
they lack safety.

4. Sudden Loss

Trauma: Unexpected grief or abandonment by circumstance.
Wound: Despair, heartbreak.
Lie: “God didn’t show up.”
Agreement: “I can’t trust God with my heart again.”
Doorway: Withdrawing from faith.
Spirit: Heaviness, hopelessness.

They don’t doubt God exists —
they doubt His care.

5. Sexual Violation

Trauma: Abuse, betrayal of innocence, unwanted exposure.
Wound: Soul defilement.
Lie: “I am dirty.”
Agreement: “I have no worth.”
Doorway: Self-hate, secret shame, compulsion.
Spirit: Lust, torment, confusion.

They don’t struggle with purity —
they struggle with violation.

Why the Church Often Misses It

Because we preach forgiveness without inner healing.
Deliverance without soul repair.
Holiness without emotional restoration.

But Jesus didn’t come just to save you.
He came to heal your soul and then set you free.

Heal the brokenhearted → proclaim liberty
(Luke 4:18)

Not the other way around.

You don’t free captives by yelling at chains —
you heal the heart that forged them.

Healing Doesn’t Mean Pretending It Didn’t Hurt

Healing means:

• You remember without bleeding

• You feel without drowning

• You trust without terror

• You love without bracing for abandonment

• You rest without fear

• You worship with an open heart again

Healing isn’t forgetting.
It's removing the power, authority, and influence of the wound.

You are not broken beyond repair.
You are being rebuilt by the One who restores souls.

Trauma doesn’t get the last word —
Jesus does.

And He calls you whole.
